Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki Training with Phiona
Walking the Reiki Path in Harmony with Nature
Reiki is more than a qualification. It is a lifelong journey of self-discovery, personal growth, and compassionate living. Rooted in the traditional teachings of Usui Shiki Ryoho, Reiki invites us to slow down, become present, and cultivate a deeper relationship with ourselves, others, and the natural world around us.
Since 2005, I have had the privilege of teaching and attuning students to Reiki, witnessing the profound ways this gentle practice can transform lives. Over the years, my teaching has evolved to honour not only the traditional lineage of Usui Shiki Ryoho but also the wisdom found within nature's rhythms and our own lived experience. I believe Reiki cannot be mastered in a weekend. Like a tree that grows strong through each passing season, our understanding of Reiki deepens through time, reflection, practice, and experience.
A Different Way of Learning Reiki
Many Reiki courses are taught over one or two days, with students progressing quickly through the levels. Whilst this approach suits some, my philosophy is different. I offer Reiki training as a journey rather than a destination. Each degree is given the time and space it deserves, allowing you to truly embody the teachings before moving forward. Rather than collecting certificates, you are invited to cultivate a way of being.
Between each Reiki degree, I encourage approximately one year of personal practice, allowing the energy, principles, and experiences to naturally unfold within your daily life. During this time, you will continue to receive guidance, mentoring, and support as your confidence and understanding develop. Learning Reiki in this way mirrors the cycles found throughout nature. Just as the seasons cannot be hurried, neither can personal growth.
Spring teaches us to begin.
Summer encourages growth and confidence.
Autumn invites reflection and gratitude.
Winter offers rest, stillness, and deeper integration.
Each Reiki degree becomes its own season of learning, allowing your practice to mature naturally before taking the next step.
Reiki First Degree (Shoden)
Beginning Your Journey. First Degree is the foundation of your Reiki path.
You will learn the history and philosophy of Usui Shiki Ryoho, receive your first attunements, and begin developing a daily self-practice. This level is primarily about healing yourself. As you begin working with Reiki energy, many students notice subtle shifts in their awareness, relationships, emotional well-being, and connection with the world around them. There is no expectation to become a practitioner at this stage. Instead, you are invited to develop trust in yourself, deepen your intuition, and allow Reiki to become part of your everyday life.
Reiki Second Degree (Okuden)
Deepening Your Practice. After allowing time for your First Degree to settle, the Second Degree expands both your understanding and your practice. You will receive the sacred Reiki symbols and learn how to work with emotional well-being, distant healing, and a deeper energetic awareness. This stage often represents personal transformation. Students frequently let go of old beliefs, develop greater confidence, and discover new ways to support themselves and others. As with all levels, the emphasis remains on practice rather than speed.
Reiki Third Degree (Shinpiden)
Living Reiki. Third Degree is often described as the beginning of true mastery, not mastery over others, but mastery of oneself. This level deepens your spiritual and personal connection with Reiki. It is a time of continued self-development, reflection, and commitment to living the Reiki Principles in everyday life. Rather than focusing solely on techniques, Third Degree encourages Reiki to become woven into how you think, live, work, and relate to the world.
Reiki Master
The Reiki Master pathway is divided into two distinct stages: Master Practitioner and Master Teacher.
Reiki Master Practitioner
The Master Practitioner level is for those who feel called to deepen their personal Reiki practice and embody the teachings more fully in everyday life. This stage is not about teaching others; it is about refining your connection to Reiki, deepening your intuition, strengthening your energetic awareness, and integrating the Master symbol into your own healing journey. Many practitioners choose to remain at this level, using Reiki within their personal lives or professional practice without the desire to teach. It is a deeply rewarding path in its own right.
Reiki Master Teacher
The Master Teacher pathway is for those who feel a genuine calling not only to practise Reiki but also to preserve and pass on the Usui Shiki Ryoho tradition with integrity, compassion, and respect. Teaching Reiki is both a privilege and a responsibility. It is far more than learning how to perform attunements or deliver a course. It is about holding space for others with humility, ethical awareness, wisdom, and authenticity as they begin their own journey.
For this reason, Master Teacher training is never rushed. It begins when both student and teacher feel the time is right. Together, we explore not only the attunement process and teaching curriculum, but also the qualities of mentorship, professional responsibility, lineage, and what it truly means to guide others with compassion and integrity.
Becoming a Reiki Master Teacher is not the end of the Reiki journey. Rather, it marks the beginning of a new chapter, one of service, stewardship, and lifelong learning. As we teach others, we continue to be students ourselves, deepening our own understanding with every person we meet and every season we walk through. Like the changing landscape throughout the year, the role of a Reiki Master continues to evolve. There is always more to learn, more to experience, and more opportunities to embody the quiet wisdom that Reiki gently invites into our lives.
Ongoing Support
Your Reiki journey does not end when your course finishes. As my student, you become part of a supportive learning community. I continue to offer guidance, mentoring, practice opportunities, seasonal reflections, and encouragement as your confidence develops. Learning Reiki is a relationship rather than a transaction, and I remain available to support your continued growth.
Is Reiki Training Right for You?
You do not need previous experience or special abilities to learn Reiki. You simply need curiosity, openness, and a willingness to invest in your own well-being. Whether you wish to practise Reiki for personal growth, support your family and friends, complement an existing therapy practice, or eventually become a Reiki Master Teacher yourself, you will be welcomed with warmth, respect, and encouragement.
How I Teach
I predominantly teach Reiki on a one-to-one basis, as this offers the opportunity for a deeply personal learning experience and honours the traditional way Reiki has been passed from teacher to student. Working individually allows us to move at your pace, explore your questions in depth, and create space for genuine integration rather than simply completing a course.
For those who enjoy learning alongside others, I also offer small-group training with a maximum of 4 students. Keeping groups intentionally small ensures that everyone receives individual guidance, personal attention, and the opportunity to build confidence in a relaxed, supportive environment.
Each year, I run small group courses for Reiki First Degree, Second Degree, Third Degree (Master Practitioner), and Master Teacher. These annual trainings follow the seasons' rhythm and allow students to learn alongside a supportive community while still receiving individual attention. As each degree is intentionally undertaken over the course of a year, these yearly groups provide a natural opportunity to progress when you feel ready for the next stage of your Reiki journey.
Each year, I offer seasonal group training that follows the natural rhythm of the year:
- Reiki First Degree – Autumn, a season of grounding, reflection, and new beginnings.
- Reiki Second Degree – Spring, a time of growth, expansion, and deepening your practice.
- Reiki Third Degree (Master Practitioner) – Summer, when your practice can fully flourish and mature.
- Reiki Master Teacher – Winter, a season of wisdom, stillness, and preparing to guide others with integrity.
Following the seasons reflects the philosophy that Reiki is not something to be rushed. Each degree is given time to settle, deepen, and become part of who you are before moving to the next stage. Rather than collecting certificates, you are invited to embody the teachings, allowing Reiki to unfold naturally in both your practice and your everyday life.
If you have friends, family members, or colleagues who would like to train together, I am also happy to arrange bespoke group dates around your availability wherever possible. My aim is to make your Reiki journey both accessible and deeply meaningful, whether you choose to learn on your own or as part of a small, like-minded community.
Following Nature's Wisdom
Nature never rushes, yet everything unfolds in its own perfect time. The changing seasons remind us that growth requires periods of action, reflection, challenge, and rest. Reiki asks the same of us. It gently teaches us to listen more deeply, to ourselves, to others, and to the world around us. When we learn in harmony with these natural rhythms, Reiki becomes more than a healing technique. It becomes a way of living with greater presence, compassion, and connection. My hope is that every student leaves not only with knowledge and attunements, but with a lasting relationship to Reiki that continues to grow, season after season, year after year.
